Maya Cohen

Born and raised in the vibrant multicultural city of Jerusalem, Maya Cohen studied at one of the city’s leading arts high schools – Charles E. Smith; where she learned several different art forms. Cohen’s main focus was naturally drama, she performed various different roles from stage to screen. Growing up as the daughter of well-known French/Israeli photographer and actor, being behind the camera and storytelling was a day to day routine.

Since being based in Melbourne; Cohen graduated the full time program at the Howard Fine Acting Studio in Brunswick as part of the 2019 ensemble. She also played roles in multiple short films and online campaigns. Cohen’s recent stage credit ‘Shannon’, in the ‘Share House’ stage production featured at the Melbourne Fringe Festival 2019. She received rave reviews for her performance.

Prior to her move to Australia, Cohen served for 3 years in the Israeli Air Force as a squadron operator in the Mediterranean city of Tel Aviv. Those years built her resilience and her sensitivity.

Cohen’s thirst for culture and people led her on a journey from India to South East Asia and although Hebrew is her mother tongue, she speaks French and fluent English. Whilst travelling around Asia, Maya met her partner, Rick, the main reason for her move to the land down-under. In her spare time, Maya is also practising some other art forms such as drawing, painting, writing and baking traditional sourdough bread.

This year, Cohen is taking part as an ensemble member of the ASC graduate Program, working on Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, where Cohen, when stages reopen, will be playing “Titania”. She is looking forward to further her opportunities and experience in the Australian industry.
