Shakespeare Republic Season Three screening at SeriesFest – update from creator/director, Sally McLean

It has been a wonderful week of virtually attending SeriesFest in the USA, where my digital series Shakespeare Republic is screening at the moment as an Official Selection. As much as the pandemic has wreaked havoc, there have been some silver linings in respect to opening up the ability to virtually attend these events for those of us based outside of the UK and US, who might not usually be able to take part.

Despite the VERY early mornings (most workshops have been taking place at 3am Melbourne time), I have found myself leaping out of bed to get onto the video conferencing calls, anxious that I don’t miss any of the fascinating and inspiring industry speakers and it has been SO worth those early morning alarms.

Having the opportunity to engage and interact with so many of my fellow independent creators, as well as the plethora of industry experts SeriesFest has managed to assemble is worth its weight in gold. As much as it is wonderful to be selected for a festival (who doesn’t love a laurel?), the true value of a festival is the ability to connect, chat with and learn from those in attendance.

Huge thanks to the amazing SeriesFest programming team for not only selecting Shakespeare Republic, but also for programming such a wide-ranging and fascinating series of panels, workshops and networking sessions. It’s been a brilliant ride!
