Shakespeare Republic: #AllTheWebsAStage (The Lockdown Chronicles) wins Best Film at the 2020 Falstaff Awards

We are absolutely thrilled to share that our current season, Shakespeare Republic: #AllTheWebsAStage (The Lockdown Chronicles), has just been announced as the “Best Film” Award Winner at the 2020 Falstaff Awards presented by PlayShakespeare.com!

We were hugely honoured to be only one of two productions nominated in this category alongside the ground-breaking The Show Must Go Online (UK), helmed by the amazing Robert Myles and produced by the fabulous Sarah Peachey (both of whom are also members of the Republic, appearing as lead ensemble in our current season).

Honourable mentions for the Falstaff Awards Best Film category went to National Theatre Live at Home (UK), the Shakespeare’s Globe (UK), and the Stratford Festival (Canada).

The Falstaff Awards are decided by reviewers & academics worldwide who come together to honour the best in Shakespeare for the year in theatre, film and publishing. Although, with this past 12 months causing the closure of theatres globally, only three categories were adjudicated for 2020 – Best Film, Best Book, Publication, or Recording (awarded to Arden Shakespeare Third Series (Various Editors, Bloomsbury)) and the Lear Award for Lifetime Achievement (awarded to Stephen Booth).

Previous winners of the Falstaff Award for Best Film include Joss Whedon‘s Much Ado About Nothing (2013, USA), Sam MendesThe Hollow Crown (2012, UK) & Dominic Cooke‘s The Hollow Crown: Wars of the Roses (2016 UK/USA), Macbeth starring Michael Fassbender (2015 France/UK), Kenneth Branagh‘s Hamlet (2007, UK), King Lear starring Antony Hopkins (UK/USA 2018), Gregory Doran‘s Hamlet starring David Tennent for the RSC (2010, UK), as well as productions from the BBC and Shakespeare’s Globe, among others.

We are just over-the-moon to be listed among such world-leading companies and projects, and are still pinching ourselves that we won!

A huge thank you to PlayShakespeare.com’s Editor-in-Chief, Ron Severdia and the team of reviewers from around the globe for awarding the series in this way. We are so grateful, humbled and overjoyed to be named as one of your Award Winners for 2020!

Congratulations to the entire Republic team!
